Stablecoins are digital dollars. One USDT or one USDC is meant to be worth one US dollar, so their value stays steady, unlike other cryptocurrencies. People hold them in crypto wallets and exchange apps, and can send them anywhere in seconds. Modem Pay lets you work with stablecoins without running any crypto infrastructure. We create the payment addresses, watch for the money, and settle you in dalasi (GMD).

What you can do

Accept stablecoin payments

Charge a customer in USD and let them pay with USDT or USDC on a hosted payment page.

Convert stablecoins to dalasi

Send USDT or USDC and receive GMD in your balance or a mobile money wallet. Also called an off-ramp.

Check prices first

See how much GMD an amount is worth, or how much to send for a GMD amount, before creating anything.

Resell conversions

Offer conversions on your own platform and earn your own markup.

Supported coins and networks

A stablecoin lives on a network (a blockchain). The same coin on two different networks is not interchangeable, so the coin and the network must always match what the payer’s wallet sends. The minimums and network fee apply to conversions to dalasi. The network fee covers what it costs us to move the money on that network. It’s added once per conversion and included in the amount to send. The payer’s own wallet may also charge a small sending fee.
For USDC, use Arc. It’s Circle’s own network, there’s no network fee, the minimum is lower, and payments are final in under a second.
Sending on the wrong network can lose the money. USDT sent on Ethereum to a Tron address, or USDC sent on another network to an Arc address, will not reach us. Always tell the payer both the coin and the network.

Words you’ll see

A digital currency designed to stay at the same value as a normal currency. USDT and USDC both track the US dollar.
The system a stablecoin moves on, such as Tron or Arc. The payer chooses it in their wallet when sending.
A one-time address we create for each payment, shown as pay_address. It looks like T… on Tron and 0x… on Arc. Only send the requested coin on the requested network to it.
Turning stablecoins into local money. In these docs we call it converting to dalasi. The API paths still use the word offramp.
How many dalasi you get for one US dollar (gmd_rate). It’s locked when you create a conversion, so price changes after that don’t affect it.
When less than the full amount arrives. We credit you for what arrived and wait for the rest. See Partial payments.

Before you start

  • Stablecoin features work in live mode only. Use a live API key.
  • All stablecoin endpoints live under https://api.modempay.com/v1/minting.
  • Set a callback_url, or a webhook in your dashboard, so you hear about payments as they arrive. See the Webhooks guide.
